Origin of Mare Nostrum SPA - Thalassotherapy

Mare Nostrum SPA was created in 1997 as the first thalassotherapy centre on the island of Tenerife. This technique, based on the therapeutic and relaxing properties of sea water, algae and other elements found in or related to the ocean, is beneficial for the organism, both physically and mentally. Its name comes from the Greek word “Thalasso” (sea), and the Greek civilization was the first to discover the properties of the sea water and transmit it, through Hippocrates, as he recommended bathing in sea water for the treatment of various aches and diseases.
Some Egyptian writers also recount the health benefits of this medium; and the Romans, great enthusiasts of thermal baths, soon saw the advantages of hydrotherapy for both mind and body.
Faithful to our origins, you can, in Tenerife, obtain in our SPA the benefits of thalassotherapy at our 33º C sea water pool, take a hydro massage bath or replace the minerals in your skin with a seaweed wrap.
